Effective Advertisements

An example of an effective advertisement would probably be Proactive commericals! I was thinking about the things I watch on TV, and what I feel really makes you want to get a product and the Proactive commericals do a great job for several reasons. They show what the product does for you, they show before and after pictures of people when using the product, and also they use celebrities in their commericals which usually pursades most of us because we aspire to be like celebrities! We want to look like them, so when you see Avril Lavigne, Jessica Simpson, or Justin Bieber saying "HEY! look at this product, it made my skin more beautiful" most of us are gonna want to buy the product. Even though we really should want to be our own person.. most people (sometimes including myself) are inspired by celebrities and want to be like them. Advertising is the key role in making products. If there were no commericals, no adverstisements on bilboards or in magazines, and we saw a product like Proactive sitting on a shelf in a store, what would make you want to buy it? You have little or no prior knowledge of the product, you don't know if it works or not so that's when advertising comes into play! It shows you all the product has to offer, then it's up to US, the consumers.. to either buy it or not. Proactive has millions of users so obviously, their adversitsement skills and product are successful.

My First Blog Post! :)

What I've learned so far from the MTN presentations.. Hm.. I've learned about analyzing media and also, creating a story board! Although I knew about these two things somewhat before MTN came, I learned a lot of things I didn't know especially when it came to analyzing media. When you're watching TV or a commercial or something, you get the message the commercial is trying to send, most of the time, that's the point, right? Now I've been paying attention to, who produced this? What kinds of shots are they using to make their message clearer? Who are they trying to persuade? I can't just sit watch commercials now without doing this and that isn't a bad thing because when you get me to do something outside of class, that really means I learned from it.  Also when we were creating story boards with our norms, that was a great practice and learning experience too! Being able to see everyone's strengths when it came down to creating a story board, I personally got to learn from it, and what to do better on next time and what I did well the first time around.

The clip I plan on using for my visual communications project is a PSA about your "natural high" promoting a drug-free lifestyle, and the promoter in this commercial is none other than (yes, my idol, and you can say I'm obsessed) Lauren Conrad!

Media literacy is important because, it's what time has brought us to be familiar with, we communicate with it and through it and most of the time, It's promoting a good cause or something that most people can relate to. When you watch a movie, or watch a TV show and you feel like you can relate with it, it makes you feel like you're one with the community, and that to me, is important.
